UO Contemporary Design

This class is an introduction to critical theory in the realm of product design and digital arts. We will examine history, theory, and social movements within the design community as well as the relationship between design as commodity and design as art. Professional designers, artists, and academics are invited throughout the term as guest lecturers to place the discussion in a contemporary context. This course is a three-term sequence starting with an historical overview in fall and more contemporary coverage in winter and spring.
